Name: Maester Leopold
Age: 55
Background
Maester Leopold had always had a knack for intellectual pursuits and his father, a minor lord of a minor house (House Crabb), made note of this and offered to send him to the Citadel. Leopold gladly accepted the offer, being the third son of a minor house had little to offer that appealed to Leopold anyway. While at the Citadel, Leopold showed a great affinity for the healing arts, study, and a knack for deduction. He became an expert at diagnosing illnesses, injuries, and other maladies and treating them. He also had a good understanding of the natural world and how it worked including animals, plants, and the seasons. It was partially due to this fact that he was sent to the Marsten household when his chain was forged.
Unfortunately, during Leopold's travel to House Marsten he was beset upon by the mountain clans. The caravan he was a part of managed to successfully fend them off on three separate occasions but, during the second attack Leopold took a javelin in his right thigh. The pain had caused him to black out. Another maester who had been travelling with them to another house in the Vale had attempted to tend Leopold's wound but due to the constant pressure to keep moving, the lack of supplies, and (according to Leopold) lack of knowing what the hell he was doing Leopold's leg would forever be crippled. Already slightly arrogant, he grew somewhat bitter over this which did not help his disposition of other or of others towards him.
Nevertheless he served House Marsten faithfully for many years, even managing to make a friend or two. His advice had always been sound and his knowledge had proven useful. Unfortunately, three years ago he came across the first puzzle he could not solve. The plague took Lord Corben's life and that of his youngest son. Shortly after Lady Isobel ran him out of Hartsbridge, the two of them had never quite seen eye to eye anyway and having failed to save her husband and last living son had been the last straw for her. He has kept contact with Gareth Stone and possibly one or two others who still remain in Hartsbridge the past three years.
Maester Leopold currently has lodging in Gulltown and works as a tutor for the sons of minor nobles. It is unusual that he has not yet been assigned to the service of some other noble family, but he has gained permission to stay where he is.
Description
Maester Leopold stands right around 6' tall with a slender frame. Over the past 3 years his appearance has changed slightly. His typically short hair has grown out and often the only attention it receives his him brushing it back with his hand, leaving it disheveled in appearance more often than not. The growth of stubble that he worked to keep somewhat manageable in the past has grown out into a full beard now. Despite looking fairly well physically considering his age, his dark brown hair has started to betray him and shades of grey have crept into both his hair and his beard. His eyes are a grey-blue. Probably his most notable trait is his limp. Leopold favors his right light heavily, even going so far as to almost always be seen using a cane in his right hand and leaning heavily upon it with each step. Of course he is also practically never without his maester's chain.
Equipment
Dressed in his robes more often than not, on rare occasion he has been seen in his travelling garb. Almost always has his cane on him. He's also often with a flask or three on his belt, the contents of which are not always discernable, though he often drinks from one. He keeps a palfrey named Abaccus.
