Each thread should work as if it were a scene in a movie or as one of the chapters like in the A Song of Ice and Fire novels (though instead of from one characters perspectives it'd be from as many as there are involved in the thread simultaneously). A thread should be created anytime characters wish to do anything of at least minor significance. Strolls through the gardens with a friend talking about nothing in particular, dinner with another noble house, a hunting foray into the nearby lands, a duel between knights, and so forth. These are all opportunities for players to roleplay, build friendships, create alliances, discover enemies, and explore. The majority of the in-game threads should be created by you, the players. Have an idea for something you want to do? Message another player to see if their character would be up for meeting and chatting. If so decide on a time slot and place and then decide which of the two wants to create the thread. Once decided create the thread and roleplay away. You could leave the thread open for other players to join in randomly or set it to private in order to plot, scheme, or woo.
There will of course be threads that I create either based on small events that are triggered by NPC actions (sometimes based on what player characters have done) and there will also be threads that I will create that are specifically made to further the story I am telling. The naming of threads should remain standardized. Beginning with the time slot the thread is in surround by brackets, the actual name of the thread based purely on the imagination and creativity of the creator, followed by whether the thread is Open or Private in parenthesis. Below are two examples of the same thread name that are acceptable.
[Day 1:Late Morning]Playing at Swords(Open)
[D1:LM]Playing at Swords(Open)
A thread is will be closed and locked as soon as everything meant to transpire in it has transpired or if there has been a day change. I will of course give everyone a warning of the impending day change so that they may attempt to wrap up all their threads for that day. Many things can be going on in the same place at the same time as well. It's ok if two people create a thread in a public place, leave it open, and six people join it and after a time 3 out of those eight people get carried away in a conversation not pertaining to anything else that's going on with the other 5. To keep things from getting two cluttered and confusing though for the two now separate groups carrying on two separate conversations it's ok to create another thread for the same time and location and move one of those two conversations there. And even for the two conversations to possible merge back into one thread again, in which case everyone would just go back to the first thread to continue. Just keep in mind the two hour constraint on a time slot (unless you want to take up two or more slots of your character's time) and also the continuity of time.
